In 2007, a single person started building electric basses in a small workshop in Monterrey, México. No team, no brand, no global ambitions — just a deep passion for the craft and an obsession with building instruments that truly played and sounded better than anything available at the time. For 15 years, RKM built instruments one by one, mostly for local musicians who knew the shop by word of mouth. The craft was being perfected in silence, one bass at a time, far from the spotlight. That long quiet period was not wasted — it was the foundation of everything that came next. In 2022, RKM went through a genuine reinvention. What had been a one-person workshop for 15 years became a structured company, with a team, a plan, and a clear intention to grow. Engineers, designers, and luthiers joined forces — not to abandon what was already there, but to build around it properly, with the discipline and vision it deserved. Since then, we've built the Custom Shop, the DS Series, the Artist Collabs, and relationships with partners like EMG, Hipshot, and Nordstrand. We've reached musicians in places we didn't expect. Every RKM bass is built by hand — and where CNC machinery allows us to achieve higher precision in critical areas, we use it. The two approaches are not in conflict. Our engineering background informs everything. Neck geometry, scale length, nut cut, fret level — we approach these with the rigor of engineers and the sensitivity of musicians. Humberto brings structure and business vision to RKM. Trained as a civil engineer, he thinks in systems — which helps keep processes organized, decisions grounded, and the brand moving in the right direction. He is involved in product selection and development, and works to get RKM in front of musicians wherever they are. A lot of what RKM has built since 2022 started with conversations he initiated. Ricardo has been building and maintaining instruments for over 20 years. He is the one who figures out how things actually get made — the geometry, the process, the setup. When an idea exists on paper, Ricardo is the person who has to make it work in wood. He is careful, methodical, and deeply experienced. The consistency in how RKM instruments feel is his work. Ricardo lleva más de 20 años construyendo y manteniendo instrumentos musicales. Es quien resuelve cómo las cosas realmente se fabrican — la geometría, el proceso, el setup. Cuando una idea existe en papel, Ricardo es la persona que tiene que hacerla funcionar en madera. Es cuidadoso, metódico y muy experimentado.
