Sharon "Shaz" Renold is one of the most recognized and influential bass voices working today. Swiss-born and raised in a family that ran the Jazzaar Festival in Switzerland for 35 years, music wasn't just a career path — it was the air she grew up breathing. She studied at Berklee College of Music, where she performed with the Berklee Indian Ensemble on Shuruaat — a Grammy-nominated album for which she composed and recorded "Aakash." She has also been part of the faculty at Berklee's Summer Bass Weekend, sharing the stage with Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, and Evan Marien. Sharon is the first global bass influencer to trust RKM with a Custom Shop build. Her first instrument is arguably one of the most visually and sonically distinctive basses we have ever made: a 5-string fretless with a Parota body, neck-through construction, Macassar Ebony fingerboard without lines, and a finish of 24K gold leaf — relicced and burned. It sounds like nothing else and looks like nothing else. The second bass found her at NAMM 2025 the same way her Janek connection found him a year earlier — she walked past the booth, played it, and we decided it belonged with her. The third instrument is a DS4-PMM that became part of her working arsenal. Three very different instruments, one very coherent artistic vision. The story begins with a direct message. RKM reached out to Sharon on Instagram and made her a simple offer: we'll build you a bass, no strings attached. She accepted, shared her general vision, and proposed it be fretless — that was her real need. From there, she trusted RKM completely with the electronics, construction method, and materials. Her only three requests: five strings, make it visually striking (preferably golden), and keep it lightweight for long performances. We built everything else around those three conditions. The result is a Parota body for warmth and low weight, neck-through construction for sustain, Macassar Ebony fretless fingerboard without lines — because Sharon plays by feel, not by visual reference — and a 24K gold leaf finish, relicced and burned. Not painted gold. Actual gold leaf, deliberately aged and scorched. Delivered at NAMM 2024, the same show where the collaboration with Janek Gwizdala also began. This bass wasn't built for Sharon — it was built for NAMM 2025. She walked past the RKM booth during the show, stopped, played it, and something happened that doesn't need much explanation. We decided it belonged with her. A 30.5" short scale with a White Ash body and a Mun Ebony top — two woods that together produce a tone that is warm, articulate, and completely its own thing. The Nordstrand Zen Blade 4 pickups deliver a modern, crystalline voice with exceptional note separation, paired with an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp that offers pure boost — no cut, no compromise. The kill switch adds a live performance dimension that matches Sharon's playing style perfectly. The body is finished in Odies Dark Oil, letting the wood grain breathe and age naturally. The neck is polyurethane — a deliberate contrast that gives each hand exactly what it needs. Este bajo no fue construido para Sharon — fue construido para NAMM 2025.
